About Instagram Shopping and Setting up an Instagram store

What is Instagram Shopping?

It is a set of features across Instagram that let people shop your photos and videos. It gives your business an immersive storefront for people to explore your best products.

With Instagram Shopping, business owners can integrate their product catalogues into their Instagram profiles. This means consumers can shop within Instagram itself which makes shopping so much easier!

Who is eligible to use this feature?

This feature is not made available for everyone so, before you get started, please check if you meet these requirements.

  • Your Instagram account is a Business account.

  • Your business must be located in an approved market and in compliant with Instagram's commerce policies.

  • You are selling eligible physical products.

  • Add a Facebook Page to your Instagram Business account.

How to set it up?

1. Switch over to Instagram Business account

  • Check that your Instagram profile is set to Public

  • Go to your profile and tap 三

  • Tap Settings

  • Tap Switch to Professional Account.

  • If you do not see this, select Account then tap Switch to Professional Account

  • Tap Continue

  • Select a Category for your business and tap Done

  • Tap OK to confirm

  • Tap Business

  • Tap Next

  • Tap Don’t use my contact info to skip this step

  • Otherwise, add Contact details then tap Next

2. Add a Facebook Page to your Business account

What you need is to connect to a Facebook Page. There is no need to create a Facebook Page Shop.

  • Go to your Instagram profile

  • Tap on Edit profile

  • Under the Public business information section, select Page

  • Tap Connect an Existing Page to choose a Facebook Page to connect.

  • If you do not have a Facebook Page, select Create a new Facebook Page

3. Upload your product catalogue

There are 2 methods to do this.

Method 1: Catalogue Manager

A DIY approach found within Facebook Business Manager.

Method 2: E-commerce Platform Partner

Through a certified e-commerce platform partner like Shopify or BigCommerce.

4. Submit your account for review

  • Go to your business's Instagram profile and tap 三

  • Select Settings

  • Tap Set up Instagram Shopping

  • Follow the steps to submit your account for review

  • Visit Shopping in your Settings at any time to check your status.

Some businesses may be notified for additional verification. Upon receiving the notification, follow the instructions steps to submit the required information of your account for review.

5. Turn on shopping

You can only turn the shopping features on after your account has been approved. If you do not see Shopping in your settings, chances are, your account is still under review or has not been approved for Instagram Shopping.

  • In your Instagram profile, tap 三

  • Select Settings

  • Tap Business then tap Shopping

  • Select the Product Catalogue to connect to your account

  • Tap Done

6. Tag your products

After you have enabled the shopping features, you can turn your posts, videos and even stories into shoppable posts and stories.

Tagging Instagram Posts

Upload a photo or video like how you normally would, add your captions, then follow the steps below. Do note that you can tag up to five items per image.

  • Select Tag products

  • Tap on photo

  • Search for product

  • Select product

  • Tap Done

  • Tap Share when you are ready to post

Shopping Stickers in Stories

Upload a photo or video and,

  • Tap the Sticker Icon in the top right-hand corner

  • Select the Product Sticker from the sticker tray

  • Select the product from your catalogue

  • Move the product sticker to where you would like it to appear on your story

  • Tap the product stick to change the text colour

  • Share your story
